Improve your school’s leadership and staff support at Leadership Camp 1.3, hosted by the University of Northern Iowa. This two-day workshop takes place April 7 and 14 at Central Rivers AEA. Led by special education expert Dr. Susan Etscheidt, the sessions offer a space for educators and administrators to solve real-world problems and improve how they evaluate special education programs.
Comprehensive curriculum
Leadership Camp 1.3 is designed to be a deep dive into the legal, ethical, and practical side of special education leadership. Key modules include:
- Legal foundations: Special Education history, IDEA, IEP compliance, and 504 Plan essentials.
- Inclusive excellence: Exploring disability, ableism, microaggressions, and the intersection of Equity, UDL, and MTSS.
- Student support: Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), discipline protocols, and school-based mental health services.
- Evaluation & personnel: Special Education teacher evaluation and managing paraprofessional services.
- Rights & resolution: Parental rights, mediation, and effective IEP facilitation.

- Format: Face-to-face instruction with additional assignments to be completed outside of the workshop.
Earn graduate credit for just $100
Through a generous grant from the Kern Family Foundation, UNI is able to offer this workshop at a significantly subsidized rate. Participants can earn one unit of graduate credit (useful for evaluator license renewal) for a total tuition of only $100.

- Optional Graduate Credit: If you wish to receive UNI graduate credit for license renewal, you must also enroll through UNI’s Online & Distance Education portal.
