Did you know that dyslexia affects one in five people? In honor of Dyslexia Awareness Month this October, Central Rivers Area Education Agency (CRAEA) invites parents, families and educators to a Dyslexia Community Night event on Tuesday, October 20, from 5:00 to 6:00 pm the CRAEA Cedar Falls office at 1521 Technology Parkway.
This event is generously sponsored by VGM Group in Waterloo, whose support helps make these critical community learning opportunities possible.
The event will feature an interactive dyslexia simulation, giving attendees hands-on insight into how individuals with dyslexia experience reading and writing. By walking in the shoes of someone with dyslexia, parents and teachers will better understand the daily frustration, anxiety and confusion many students face. Attendees will also learn what dyslexia is, along with key signs and symptoms across different age groups.

“Far too many students navigate dyslexia without a formal diagnosis. Equipping educators and caregivers to recognize the signs and step in with effective guidance is essential,” said Kelly Ward, Central Rivers AEA Consultant for Ed Services/Learning Support Specialist.
Jama Johnson, fellow Central Rivers AEA Consultant for Ed Services/Learning Support Specialist, added, “Experience firsthand what it’s like to navigate the classroom with dyslexia through our hands-on simulation, and connect with parents, educators and advocates at our Empowering Minds: Dyslexia Community Night.”
