Empowering educators to support struggling readers

Summary

Central Rivers AEA is offering a new course for K-12 educators that gives participants practical, evidence-based strategies and ongoing support to improve reading instruction for students facing challenges, including dyslexia.

Does your school team want to make a greater difference for students who struggle with reading? Educators can enhance their skills by attending “Intensifying Structured Literacy Instruction for Struggling Readers,” a valuable two-credit course designed for K-12 teachers. This course helps educators strengthen their reading instruction within a system that supports all learners. (This was formerly known as Intensive literacy for struggling readers, elementary and secondary course).

Participants will gain practical strategies and tools to help students overcome reading difficulties. The course provides:

  • Proven teaching methods: Learn strategies based on research-backed approaches, like Orton-Gillingham.
  • Targeted support: Discover how to identify specific reading challenges and provide tailored help.
  • Practical solutions: Get support for students with dyslexia and other reading difficulties.
  • Ongoing guidance: Receive continued coaching to implement new teaching methods effectively.

Schools are encouraged to send a team, such as a special education teacher, an instructional coach and a team representative. Learning together helps build a strong system to support literacy across the school.
