Jen Sigrist selected as next Executive Director of Media & Technology

Central Rivers Area Education Agency (AEA) is pleased to announce that Jen Sigrist, currently Director of Personalized Learning and Innovation at Van Meter Schools, has been selected as the agency’s next Executive Director of Media & Technology.  Sigrist will assume the role on July 1. She replaces Karl Kurt, Central Rivers AEA Assistant Chief Administrator/Director of Human Resources, who stepped in as an interim director following the retirement in 2017 of Dr. Gerald Schnabel.

In her new position, Sigrist will oversee all staff members who provide media and technology support to over 65,000 students and 5,000 educators throughout 18-counties of north central and northeastern Iowa.

“We were very fortunate to have a number of incredible candidates for this position,” said Sam Miller, Central Rivers AEA chief administrator. ”Jen’s leadership and reputation in the state in the areas of technology integration, personalized learning, and competency-based education made her the right choice at the right time for our agency. She brings a skill set that will lead our organization and our school districts to even greater heights.”

Sigrist has served the Van Meter Schools since 2009 where she has created the vision and lead implementation of a professional learning community focused on innovation and teaching and learning. She is also the lead for innovative practices for Heartland AEA where she facilitates a network of school districts who share and learn about innovative practices that support personalized, competency-based education (CBE).  In 2016, Sigrist also served the Iowa Department of Education as the lead facilitator of the CBE Collaborative for nine districts across the state.

Sigrist earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in education, Masters degrees in curriculum and instruction as well as education leadership, and is engaged in work toward a Specialist degree in advanced leadership.
