This 45 hour course will fulfill the requirements to add the special needs area of concentration to your parageneralist certificate. Besides learning a basic special education knowledge, students will also delve into IEP basics, how to collect and analyze data, determining and implementing appropriate accommodations, assistive technology options, and behavior management skills. The course is designed as a 16-hour workshop followed by self-guided online learning and an independent practice component. Students wishing to obtain their special needs area of concentration must also complete the Substitute Authorization course.

Prerequisites:

*Paraeducators must hold a current paraeducator generalist certificate.

*Paraeducators must be currently employed by a school district within Central Rivers AEA’s territory.

*Paraeducators must establish a working relationship with a partner teacher who agrees to participate in the classroom observation requirements.

How to Register:

Paraeducators wishing to register for the special needs area of concentration course will need to visit Central Rivers AEA course catalog and register for course #15689 Navigating a Special Needs Classroom for Paraeducators. The cost will be a total of $100 (including course and fees). Please note in order to obtain the special needs area of concentration paraeducators must also complete the substitute authorization course #3405.
